Bookfish's Blog

You're not going to believe this, but it's true!

As I was getting ready to head in to the store today the phone rang.It was one of my local wholesalers claiming he had CB maculosus angels and CB bumblebee groupers. Now these are both large species and to the best of my knowledge, neither had been raised in captivity. So I asked my salesperson to check with the owner re: whether these were actually CB or simply TR (captive bred is a whole lot different than tank raised btw). The answer came back that they were truly tank raised. Believing this to be a near impossibility, I went over to look anyway and although I can't swear to it, it looks like he's right.

Could it be any crazier?

Today is Monday and our grand opening is Friday. ORA is sending a big shipment today or tomorrow. Tomorrow the electrician is supposed to be in to up our amperage. We won't have a register or CC processing in place till after the 1st. I continue to bring dozens of coral each day from home to the shop. Quite a relief to think that soon all my coral care will be in 1 place....Ahhhh!

update

Lots of excitement. I've got 11 systems running and by the end of the day should have 12. Some of the captive bred blk occelaris babies are coming in today from Robin. They are some of my favorite baby clownfish. And while his fish aren't the absolute cheapest in the market, they are the highest quality I've run across. And our banner is up on 2 local club forums. We're currently sponsoring Bay Area Reefers (of course) and Northern California Reef Club. We hope to add 3 more California clubs to that list shortly. And soon I have to get that ORA order in. I just fired up the RO/DI unit yesterday to produce the coral worthy water now that some systems are almost done cycling.

so close!!

System 10 is FW leaktesting now. Only 2 more to go!

system 7 online

Fired up system 7 yesterday. Is it too much to hope for that number 8 might be done tonight?

systems 5 and 6 up and running!

As of last night, systems 5 and 6 were up and running. Currently they have tap water based SW, and some live rock just to kick things off. As I do the first water changes I'll move them over to RO/DI based SW. So now it's on to system 7 and the first of the 250w lighting!

Reality settles in

So we took a realistic look at the progress and decided to set an actual opening date. We will be having an open house party on Friday, Jan 1 2010 from 3pm to 8pm and you're all invited!

4 systems up and running!

Got 4 systems up and cycling now. Hopefully tomorrow I can assemble 2 more systems and be half done with the systems. Finally getting there!

Happy Black Friday

We took advantage of the Black Friday sales to buy the 27" Imac and the Googlephones for the store. System number 2 is leaktesting tonight as system number one begins its cycle. But the big question remains...can I learn to use a Mac???
