Frequently Asked Questions

Wild corals collected for our hobby are almost never conclusively identified to species level. Many are not even listed under the correct genus! And while some species are visually distinct, many are similar enough to cause confusion. We will always provide all the information we have on a coral and any information we have concerning its identification.

If you receive one of our corals grown on an acrylic rod, we recommend either of the following techniques;

A. Push the base of the rod into a hole in your live rock and secure it in place with epoxy or superglue gel or

B. Cut the extra rod off the bottom of the coral with wire cutters and glue the coral wherever you'd like it.

As our friend Jake Adams says..."nothing more than a “book fish”, an amazing species you often see in books but never in person."

As your system settles into a stable environment conducive to coral growth, you will find that certain types (or species within types) of coral will do better in your tank than others. While some of this is predictable with known information about the various species captive care requirements, there are still many unknowns surrounding a corals ultimate success in any given system. If a coral frag finds itself in a favorable environment, the rate of growth can be quite amazing. On some of the faster growing SPS, daily progress is easily observed. If a coral is happy with it's environment, a small piece and a bit of time is all you need to grow a large colony.

On the other hand, if you acquire a coral that doesn't like the environment you've provided (even if it should!), it's far better to find that out with a relatively small, captive propagated frag than a larger, imported, wild colony.

You will notice that all of our pricing is in whole dollar amounts. This is representative of the straight-forward approach we will be taking with the entire business and also our view that our customers are intelligent, aware and informed hobbyists. We believe that if retailers subscribe to to a fair mark-up policy, there should be no need for deceptive pricing strategies.
